“Snow is on the ground but that’s not stopping Damon Suglia from opening Vinnie & Pat’s Dog House in Elizabethtown for the season.
The Boardwalk-like restaurant will host a grand re-opening at 11 a.m. March 20, the same day Rita’s Italian Ice does its free spring Italian ice giveaway.
The restaurants share a parking lot at 32 N. Market St., making it easy for customers to pick up their hot dogs and ice treats all in one trip. Suglia owns both establishments with his wife, Desiree.
Last summer they opened Vinnie & Pat’s under the Coney Island concept. This season, they replaced the name with “Dog House.” “Instead of Coney Island types of food, we wanted to expand and broaden the selection,” he said.
The stand sells more than 15 types of special hot dog combinations as well as french fries, cheese fries and chip cheese steak. Vinnie & Pat’s makes its hot dog chili from scratch with all-beef and no fillers.
Specialties also include a Vinnie Burger, a hamburger patty with chipped steak, fried onions, American cheese and a special meat sauce, and a Patsy Dog topped with mustard, onions and meat sauce on a steamed bun.
For the grand reopening on March 20, hot dogs will be priced at 94 cents.
Also new this year, the deck has been covered to provide all-season indoor seating for customers.
A few years ago, the Suglias operated a Vinnie & Pat’s concession trailer in the Rita’s parking lot. The concept did so well they decided when the neighboring tax office became available to convert it into a permanent location.
It is named after Suglia’s parents, Vinnie and Pat.
For the grand reopening on March 20 the stand will be open 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Otherwise, the hours will be: 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday and noon-6 p.m. Sunday.”
